One of the best batters in the world and a legend of the game, Sachin Tendulkar has heaped praise on newly appointed Indian captain Shubman Gill for his exceptional batting performance and calm leadership. Gill smashed a double century in the first innings and followed it up with another century in the second during the Edgbaston Test, amassing 430 runs in the match — a record for an Indian batter in a single Test.
Tendulkar was present at Lord’s on Day 1 of the third Test, where he was honoured by the MCC. Speaking in a video shared by Star Sports, Tendulkar said Gill has taken well-thought-out decisions on the field and is leading by example with the bat.
“He’s Been Batting Brilliantly” – Tendulkar
“He’s been good. He’s very calm and composed and I strongly believe that how the rest of the 10 players also react to whatever decision he has taken has been measured decisions, well thought of. His batting is complementing that as well because if a captain is in good form, it makes a huge difference on decision making. You need to be in the right frame of mind to make those important calls. He’s been batting brilliantly,” Tendulkar said.
The Master Blaster also acknowledged the challenges faced by batters, especially when opponents look to exploit any technical flaws. But he noted that, for Gill, it’s tough to find any at this stage.
“As an opposition, normally, you know they look to find weak areas in your batting. When your technique at this point of time, has been remarkable. Whatever I have seen, it’s been special. I am very happy you know the way we came back in the series in the second Test match after that disappointment in the first Test match,” he added.
