Uncapped pacer Anshul Kamboj has reportedly been drafted into the Indian squad as a cover option for the fourth Test against England, set to take place at Old Trafford in Manchester.

His inclusion comes amid growing concerns over the fitness of left-arm seamer Arshdeep Singh and right-arm quick Akash Deep. As reported by RevSportz a few days back, Arshdeep sustained a cut on his bowling hand during a training session in Beckenham and required stitches. With recovery expected to take time, he is likely to miss not just the fourth Test but possibly the series finale as well.

Akash Deep is also in doubt after picking up a groin niggle during the fourth day of the Lord’s Test. He was unable to bowl in the team’s subsequent training session in Beckenham before they travelled to Manchester.

Further adding to India’s injury woes, vice-captain Rishabh Pant continues to recover from a finger injury sustained while attempting to stop a delivery from Jasprit Bumrah in the previous match. He did not take the gloves for the remainder of the game, and although he batted, it was with visible discomfort.

Anshul, who represents Haryana in domestic cricket, impressed earlier this year with India A during a series against the England Lions in June, claiming five wickets in two matches.

With England leading the five-match series 2-1, Shubman Gill and his team will be eager to bounce back and level the series in the upcoming Test at Old Trafford.
