Veteran Indian cricketer Ravichandran Ashwin has praised Ravindra Jadeja for his fighting knock at Lord’s, but also felt that Jadeja could have taken a little more risk during the final stages of the match. India was chasing 193 runs for a historic win but fell short by just 22 runs on Day 5 of the thrilling Test. Jadeja finished unbeaten on 61 runs off 181 balls, standing strong while wickets kept falling around him.
The left-handed all-rounder fought till the end and built partnerships with Jasprit Bumrah (5 runs) and Mohammed Siraj (4 runs). Together, they kept India’s hopes alive even when the game looked over.
“Jaddu showed an entire generation of Gen Bold that you can play with patience”
Ashwin shared his thoughts about the match on his YouTube channel. He also revealed that he had been messaging a “big cricketer” throughout the match, though he didn’t name the person.
Ashwin said, “Both of us felt that Jadeja should have probably taken a little more risk, but not a lot. The way he played, hats off! Jaddu showed an entire generation of Gen Bold that you can play with patience and skin the Test game.”
Ashwin also pointed out one key moment where he felt the match could have tilted in India’s favour. “He could have picked one moment with Siraj and asked him to go after Bashir because Siraj can hit a clean ball. He can hit a spinner to the leg side with the slope,” Ashwin added.
