Jasprit Bumrah has been released from the Team India squad for the ongoing fifth and final Test against England at The Oval as BCCI officially confirmed it ahead of day two.

As announced by the team management, to manage Bumrah’s workload, it was planned that he would feature in only three Tests during the series. As it stands, Bumrah has completed his quota, playing three of the first four Tests.

He began the series on a high at Headingley in Leeds, where he claimed a five-wicket haul in the first innings. However, he went wicketless in the second innings. Bumrah was then rested for the second Test, which India went on to win at Edgbaston in Birmingham.

Returning to the XI for the third Test at Lord’s, Bumrah once again made a mark, picking up five wickets in the first innings. He bowled 16 overs in the second innings and bagged two wickets, though India eventually lost that match.

In the fourth Test at Old Trafford, Manchester, Bumrah appeared slightly off-colour. He bowled 33 overs and picked up just two wickets as India, under pressure, managed to force a draw.

With the series at 2-1 in England’s favour, the fifth Test at The Oval became a must-win clash for India. Many fans had hoped Bumrah would play, given the stakes and his match-winning ability. But the team decided to stick to the workload management plan and gave him rest.

Despite missing two matches, Bumrah finishes the series with 14 wickets in five innings at an average of 26.

Now, attention turns to the upcoming Asia Cup. It remains to be seen whether Bumrah will be included in the squad or opt to skip the tournament to manage his workload further.
