India’s Test captain Shubman Gill scored a brilliant century at Edgbaston on the first day of the second Test. However, this is not the first time an Indian batter has reached three figures at this venue. Here are the other instances:

Virat Kohli – 149 in 2018

In the first innings of the 2018 series opener, Kohli played a statement knock, scoring 149 off 225 balls. It was his first century on English soil, and he went on to score over 550 runs in that series. The innings included 22 fours and a six.

Rishabh Pant – 146 in 2022

In the series decider, India were in a spot of bother when Pant came in to bat at number five. The southpaw played a stunning innings of 146 runs from 111 balls, which featured 19 fours and four sixes at a strike rate of 131.53.

Sachin Tendulkar – 122 in 1996

In the first Test of the 1996 tour, during India’s second innings, Tendulkar scored 122 off 177 balls while most other batters failed to contribute significantly. His innings was laced with 19 fours and a six.

Shubman Gill – 114 in 2025*

On the opening day of the second Test, Captain Gill came in at number four and played a commanding knock, taking India to a strong position by stumps. He remained unbeaten on 114 off 216 balls, including 12 fours. It was his second consecutive century in the series.

Ravindra Jadeja – 104 in 2022

In the first innings of the fifth Test of the series, Jadeja came in at number seven and played a superb knock of 104 off 194 balls, helping India to a competitive total. His innings included 13 fours.
