The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) have named pacer Gus Atkinson as the latest addition to their squad for the third Test of the ongoing Anderson–Tendulkar Trophy, set to begin on 10 July at Lord’s in London.

Having missed the first two Tests of the series, Atkinson is now set to rejoin the national side ahead of the crucial encounter at the Home of Cricket. The right-arm quick last featured for England in May during the one-off Test against Zimbabwe, where he sustained an injury that also ruled him out of the ODI series against the West Indies.

Atkinson is the only change to the squad from the second Test. England had brought in Jofra Archer ahead of the Edgbaston match, but opted to retain the same playing XI following their opening win in Leeds. Archer was later sidelined due to a family emergency. Meanwhile, India chose to rest one of their leading fast bowlers, and England followed suit with theirs.

After England’s crushing 336-run defeat in Birmingham, the five-match series is now level at 1–1. England had earlier clinched the opening Test in Leeds by five wickets.

Atkinson will now compete for a place in the playing XI alongside Archer, who is also pushing for a return to red-ball cricket. Captain Ben Stokes has already hinted at changes for the upcoming Lord’s Test, and Atkinson’s inclusion is seen as a significant boost to the squad.

England squad for the Third Test vs India: Ben Stokes (C), Jofra Archer, Gus Atkinson, Shoaib Bashir, Jacob Bethell, Harry Brook, Brydon Carse, Sam Cook, Zak Crawley, Ben Duckett, Jamie Overton, Ollie Pope, Joe Root, Jamie Smith, Josh Tongue, Chris Woakes
