Team India put together an excellent effort on Day Five of the fifth Test at The Oval as they won the match by six runs and drew the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy 2025, 2-2.
Head coach Gautam Gambhir, who was under scrutiny regarding the team’s performance in the red-ball format since his arrival, now breathes a sigh of relief and believes this win was only possible because of the collective effort shown by the team.
In a recent video posted by the BCCI, Gambhir said that the team rose to the occasion and met expectations, making them deserving winners of The Oval Test.
“It’s going to be the ideology of this Test team, where it won’t be about individual-centric, it will be about the team. The way the boys have fought. I’ve always been a big believer that you should always get what you deserve, not what you want. And I think the guys deserved it,” he said.
Gill on India’s Win
India’s new Test captain and the highest scorer of the series, Shubman Gill, expressed his happiness with the team’s performance.
“I’m feeling very ecstatic and high right now and very happy with the way everyone performed. Very happy with the way everyone contributed throughout the series. Different people stepping in at different moments,” he said.
The captain also shared that he lived up to his own expectations with the bat and delivered for the team.
“This is what you want as a captain, and I’m very happy with the way I performed as a batter as well,” he concluded.
