Legendary former India captain Kapil Dev has shared his views on the Ben Stokes vs Ravindra Jadeja debate over who is the better all-rounder. Speaking at an event, Kapil praised Ben Stokes for his all-round efforts but made it clear that, in his opinion, Ravindra Jadeja remains the superior all-rounder.
While Stokes boasts an elite Test record with 7,032 runs and 230 wickets, Jadeja has a tally of 3,824 runs and 330 wickets. Yet, Kapil leaned in favour of the Indian star based on current form and impact.
“I don’t want to compare. Stokes is a good all-rounder, but I still feel Jadeja is ahead. He is performing far better,” Kapil said at the event, as quoted by India Today.
In the ongoing series, both players have been instrumental. Stokes leads the wicket-taking charts with 17 wickets, but with the bat, Jadeja has made a bigger impact—scoring 454 runs at an impressive average of 113.50, including four fifties and one century. Stokes, meanwhile, has scored 304 runs, including one century.
“Give Gill Time” – Kapil Dev
Kapil also addressed the growing scrutiny on young India captain Shubman Gill, who is leading the side in a challenging series where India trails 1-2. Amidst criticism of Gill’s captaincy decisions, Kapil urged fans and critics to be patient.
“Give him time. This is his first series; he will commit mistakes, and there will be many positives over the period of time, he will learn,” Kapil said.
He further emphasised the importance of long-term backing for the youthful team currently being fielded by India. “This is a young team, they are getting the opportunity to play, and in the coming days, these players will win. Any new team in the world takes time to adjust.”
