A day after their disappointing loss to England in the third Test at Lord’s, India’s men’s and women’s cricket teams met the United Kingdom’s King Charles III at St. James’s Palace in London on Tuesday, 15 July. Both teams, along with their coaches and BCCI officials, posed for pictures and had a brief interaction with the King.

Speaking to ANI, India men’s team captain Shubman Gill praised King Charles’ gesture of meeting the Indian teams. He shared that the King recalled Mohammed Siraj’s dismissal in the Lord’s Test as an unfortunate moment for India.

“It was amazing to meet King Charles III and he was very kind and generous to call us. We had some really good conversations. King Charles III told us that the way our last batsman got out in the previous Test match was quite unfortunate, the ball rolling on the stumps,” Gill said.

England’s Shoaib Bashir bowled the final over in which Siraj was dismissed after the ball rolled onto the stumps, sealing India’s narrow 22-run loss. “We told him that it was an unfortunate match for us and could have gone either way. Hopefully, we will have better luck in both the next games,” Gill added.

Harmanpreet Kaur Shares Her Experience

India women’s cricket team captain Harmanpreet Kaur also reflected on the special occasion, saying it was a warm and friendly interaction with the King. “It was a very nice experience. We’ve come to England so many times, but this was the first time we met him. He was very friendly, he asked us how was the travel and all, it was really nice to meet him,” she told ANI.
