KL Rahul has etched his name into an elite list by becoming only the fourth Indian batter to score over 1000 Test runs against England in England. On Day 1 of the fourth Test at Old Trafford, Manchester, Rahul crossed this milestone, surpassing Virat Kohli’s tally of 976 runs.

The 32-year-old Indian opener also reached the 400-run mark in the ongoing series, which includes centuries at Edgbaston and Lord’s. With this record, he now stands behind only three Indian legends on the list of most Test runs by Indians in England: Sachin Tendulkar (1575 runs), Rahul Dravid (1376 runs), and Sunil Gavaskar (1152 runs).

Rahul’s Composed Batting

Rahul once again showed his brilliance in the opening session, staying solid against England’s early pace attack. His partnership with Yashasvi Jaiswal kept the scoreboard moving steadily.

He scored 46 runs off 98 balls, including four boundaries, at a strike rate of 56.94. His calm and focused approach has made him one of the most reliable players in India’s campaign during this series. In both innings at Lord’s, Rahul stood strong even when wickets kept falling around him, highlighting his value to the team.

Match and Team Updates

India, currently trailing 1-2 in the five-match series, made three changes to their playing XI. Anshul Kamboj made his debut in place of Akash Deep, Sai Sudharsan replaced Karun Nair, and Shardul Thakur came in for Nitish Kumar Reddy.

England won the toss and chose to bowl first. At the end of 50 overs, India were at 145 for 3.
