Josh Tongue wrapped up the Indian lower order in quick time, finishing with impressive figures of 4/86 in 20 overs, as India were bowled out for 471 runs.
Tongue produced a beauty to dismiss centurion Rishabh Pant, who had no answer to the delivery and was trapped leg before wicket (LBW).
Post lunch, on the third ball of the 111th over, Tongue dismissed Jasprit Bumrah. The delivery swung away from outside off, and Bumrah went for a drive—only to edge it straight to Harry Brook at slip.
Josh Tough took all four wickets on day two
In the very next over, Tongue struck again. On the first ball, he removed the well-set Ravindra Jadeja, who attempted a cut shot but ended up dragging the ball onto his stumps. Then, on the final delivery of that over, he cleaned up Prasidh Krishna with a full ball that curved back in and knocked over the leg stump.
Tongue ended the innings with 4/86 in his 20 overs, making him the second-best bowler for England in the innings—behind only his skipper Ben Stokes, who claimed four wickets for just 66 runs in his 20 overs. Brydon Carse and Shoaib Bashir also chipped in with a wicket each. Yesterday, he went wicketless but the way with some assistance of the conditions, he made a comeback on day two, it was a remarkable effort.
For India, Yashasvi Jaiswal, captain Shubman Gill, and vice-captain Rishabh Pant all scored centuries to set up a strong first-innings total.
