Former England captain Michael Vaughan and ex-India opener Wasim Jaffer brought their trademark social media banter back to life after England’s thrilling five-wicket win over India in the first Test of the five-match series at Headingley, Leeds, on June 24.
England pulled off a remarkable chase of 371 runs on the final day, thanks to a brilliant 149-run knock by opener Ben Duckett. With this memorable win, England took a 1-0 lead in the series.
As soon as the result was sealed, Vaughan took to X (formerly Twitter) and tagged Jaffer with a cheeky message: “Evening @WasimJaffer14.. Hope you are ok .. #1-0.”

“Enjoy the win Michael, we’ll be back” – Wasim Jaffer
Known for his witty responses, Jaffer did not disappoint. He posted a photo of Vaughan looking tense in the commentary box, captioned: “Happy that a young Indian team got you worried like this. Enjoy the win Michael, we’ll be back.”
Vaughan, never one to back down from banter, responded with a bold prediction: “Could be 4-0 now Wasim..”
This light-hearted exchange between the two former players has become a regular feature during India-England encounters, adding humour and camaraderie around intense matches.

Duckett was named Player of the Match for his outstanding contributions—scoring 62 in the first innings and a match-defining 149 in the second. His heroics led England to their second-highest successful run chases in their Test history and gave Ben Stokes’ team a confident start to the series.
