Former England cricketer Moeen Ali has praised KL Rahul for his contributions in India’s five-Test series against England, saying his efforts have not been given enough credit. Rahul scored 532 runs in 10 innings at an average of 53.20, finishing as the third-highest run-scorer of the series.
Few batters have divided opinion like Rahul. But when senior players announced their retirement before the challenging English tour, he stepped up with consistency at the top of the order. Across five hard-fought Tests, Rahul didn’t just score runs—he proved his doubters wrong. His technique, shot selection, and overall impact were on full display throughout the series.
“I think people don’t realise how good someone like KL Rahul is, particularly in opening the batting. He was brilliant last series as well in England, and he is brilliant again this series. I actually think Shubman scored the most runs and was outstanding, but I thought KL’s role within the side was probably the best I have seen him play over the years,” Moeen said on the Beard Before Wicket podcast.
He added, “He is such a good player… Sometimes I just feel he doesn’t take the handbrake off, just free up a bit more, but generally I would say he’s one of the best players in the world.”
Rahul scored his ninth Test hundred at Leeds and followed it with his tenth at Lord’s, becoming the first Indian opener to score multiple centuries at the historic venue.
England leg-spinner Adil Rashid also hailed Rahul’s performance, saying his batting “looked class” throughout the series. He said, “He (KL Rahul) goes under the radar… This guy looks class. He looks really good in defence, in attack.”
