Former England captain Nasser Hussain has lauded India’s hard-fought battle against England in the Lord’s Test, which they lost by 22 runs on Day 5. Speaking to Sky Sports, Hussain noted the similarities between Shoaib Bashir’s final wicket of Mohammed Siraj and the dramatic ending of the 2005 Edgbaston Test involving Andrew Flintoff and Brett Lee.

“That was a great advert for five-day Test cricket. It was hard-fought, at times feisty, but in the end played within the spirit of the game. You saw at the end there the England players going up to the two India players in the middle. A bit like 2005 when Andrew Flintoff went up to Brett Lee at the non-striker’s end at Edgbaston,” he said.

India’s all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja, along with lower-order batters Nitish Reddy, Jasprit Bumrah, and Siraj, showed courage with the bat—something Hussain described as a brilliant display on the final day, even though it ultimately ended in defeat.

“Jadeja and the India tailenders showed so much character and so much fight, they did not deserve to be on the losing side. That was the best five days of Test cricket I have seen in some time,” Hussain added.

The resilience shown by Jadeja and Siraj with the bat reignited hope for India before it ended with a faint edge behind. Jadeja finished the match unbeaten on 61, leading India’s spirited fight till the very end.
