Former England captain Nasser Hussain has revealed the nickname that Mohammed Siraj was being called in England’s dressing room. Siraj was one of the standout performers for India in the recently concluded Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy 2025, finishing as the highest wicket-taker with 23 wickets in nine innings.
Throughout the series, Siraj showed immense fight, passion, grit, and determination — traits that also brought out his aggressive side. It seems that this earned him a nickname in the England dressing room, which Hussain shared while writing in his column for the Daily Mail.
“He’s fiery, the England boys call him Mr. Angry, and he has the longest follow through in the history of the game, but he demands your attention,” Hussain wrote.
“You could do a montage of the histrionics — down on his knees in despair at Lord’s, the celebrations and dejection when DRS decisions go one way or another. Yes, he plays the pantomime villain at times, a bit like Warney did, and so people love to hate him, but he regularly has that massive smile on his face too,” he further added.
It was a memorable series for Siraj, though it came with its share of ups and downs. He put up a strong fight with the bat alongside Ravindra Jadeja at Lord’s, but his unfortunate dismissal in that innings hit him hard.
In the final Test at The Oval, Siraj was nearly remembered for the wrong reason — when he took a catch of Harry Brook but stepped on the boundary rope, gifting England batter a lifeline.
However, the script flipped on the final day. Siraj produced magic with the ball, picking up three crucial wickets and completing his five-wicket haul to hand India a famous win and level the series 2-2.
