Nitish Kumar Reddy made a comeback to the Indian Test team after the Australia tour in the second Test between India and England being played at Edgbaston. After a terrific tour in Australia, where he also got his first hundred, fans had great expectations from him, but he failed to live up to them and got out for a solitary run.
Being put into bat by England, India lost KL Rahul very early. After that, Karun Nair and Yashasvi Jaiswal put on a solid partnership of 80 runs, giving the innings some much-needed stability. Two good partnerships followed after that. Nitish Reddy joined Shubman Gill when the score was 208/4 in the 61st over. The stage was set for the right-hander to play a big innings and take the team forward.
Reddy faced five balls and scored one run, but on the sixth delivery from Chris Woakes, he was dismissed. The ball pitched outside off, and Reddy assumed it would not cause much trouble, so he left it. However, the ball came back in and hit the off stump. In his comeback innings, Reddy scored one run off six balls.
Reddy had played five Test matches before this, and in 10 innings, he had scored 299 runs at an average of 33.22, including one century. His highest score was 114.
At the present moment India is playing at 259/5 with captain Shubham Gill and Ravindra Jadeja at the crease.
