In another setback for Team India ahead of the fourth Test against England at Old Trafford, Nitish Kumar Reddy has sustained a knee injury that could rule him out of not only the upcoming match but also the remainder of the series.

The 22-year-old all-rounder has injured his left knee, casting serious doubt over his availability for the remainder of the series. According to sources speaking to RevSportz, Nitish sustained the injury during a gym session, with suspected ligament damage likely ruling him out of the final two Tests of the tour.

The injury came on a day when the Indian team were forced to train indoors due to persistent rain in Manchester. It was further confirmed on Sunday when the Indian team visited Old Trafford to interact with Manchester United players, and Nitish was notably absent from the trip to the iconic football stadium.

This development further complicates matters for Team India, who currently trail 1-2 in the five-match series.

Meanwhile, Anshul Kamboj, recently drafted in as cover, has joined the squad, with Arshdeep Singh and Akash Deep both nursing injuries.

After missing the opening Test in Headingley, Nitish featured in the second and third matches, replacing Shardul Thakur. While his performance in Birmingham was modest, he made notable contributions at Lord’s, claiming key wickets including Ben Duckett and Zak Crawley in the first innings, and chipping in with useful runs (30 and 13) in both innings.

With Nitish sidelined, Shardul now appears to be the only like-for-like replacement available for the crucial fourth Test in Manchester.
