Ajinkya Rahane, who famously led India to a historic Test series win in Australia in 2020–21, has shared his thoughts on India’s ongoing struggles in England. Though no longer part of the playing XI, Rahane remains deeply engaged with the team’s journey and was present at Lord’s during India’s recent defeat in the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy.
Speaking on his YouTube channel, Rahane advised that India should consider playing an extra bowler in the upcoming fourth Test in Manchester, which begins on July 23. India arealready trailing 1-2 after three games in the series.
“We all know that Day 4 and 5 get slightly difficult to bat on. It’s not easy to score runs,” he said. “Yes, England bowled really well. But I felt India missed an opportunity to get that big score on the board in the first innings. And also, I feel going forward, India should look to add one extra bowler — because you’re going to win a Test match or a Test series by getting 20 wickets.”
Rahane Reflects on Turning Point at Lord’s
Rahane also spoke about what he felt was the turning point of the Lord’s Test, pointing to Ben Stokes’ brilliant fielding just before lunch as the momentum-shifting moment.
“It’s very easy for the fielder to get relaxed,” Rahane said. “When you see only two or three balls left before lunch, you can easily get relaxed. But his attitude towards the ball, his intensity, and getting that run-out — that’s where I felt England came into the game.”
