ENG vs IND: Ravindra Jadeja Breaches BCCI Protocol During Edgbaston Test

India’s star all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja made a quiet departure from protocol on day two of the second Test against England in Birmingham, opting to arrive at the ground ahead of schedule.

With the prospect of facing a relatively new ball early in the day, Jadeja decided to head to the venue on his own to get in some extra batting practice before play began. This move, while seemingly minor, went against the BCCI’s post-Australia tour guidelines, which state that players must travel to and from the ground together via the team bus for security and coordination. Although it’s against the guidelines, he won’t face any consequences for doing so.

“I felt I should spend more time in the nets since the ball was still new,” Jadeja said after the day’s play, as quoted by ESPNCricinfo. “My aim was to play through the early overs so that the rest of the innings would be smoother. Fortunately, I managed to bat till lunch, and then Washi [Washington Sundar] and Shubman [Gill] continued strongly.”

Jadeja resumed on 41 and went on to score a composed 87, forging a vital 203-run partnership with skipper Gill that helped India cross 500. Having scored a century at Edgbaston back in 2022, he looked well on course for another before falling to a rising delivery from Josh Tongue, dismissed 13 short of a ton.
