Rohit Sharma was seen in attendance at The Oval on Day 3 of the final Test between India and England. A video of him entering the stadium quickly went viral, and fans were excited to see the former Test captain — even though he has retired from the longest format of the game.

Rohit announced his retirement from Test cricket earlier this year after the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Australia. His announcement came as a shock for his fans just before this England tour. He recently led India to a Champions Trophy win and capped off his T20I career by guiding India to the T20 World Cup title. As of now, Rohit remains an active player for India only in the 50-over format.

However, his visit to The Oval also sent a strong message — that he still cares about the team and their success.

India’s Test team is going through a transition — the beginning of a new era led by young captain Shubman Gill. Rohit’s presence will surely give the team added confidence, especially during such an important match.

On the field today, by lunch on Day 3, India were 189 for 3 in 44 overs, leading England by 166 runs. Yashasvi Jaiswal is batting on 85*, continuing his fine form. Akash Deep made a surprise impact with the bat, scoring 66 runs. Meanwhile, Gill is at the crease, batting on 11*. Despite early setbacks, India have reached a stable position and will look to set a big target for England.
