Ravindra Jadeja played a key role in helping India secure a draw in the fourth Test against England at Manchester. However, former India cricketer Navjot Singh Sidhu is not entirely convinced by Jadeja’s match-winning capabilities.

Despite Jadeja’s solid partnership with Washington Sundar that helped India survive two early batting collapses, Sidhu pointed out that the all-rounder often falls short when it comes to turning matches in India’s favour—especially in overseas conditions. He acknowledged Jadeja’s consistency but stressed that the all-rounder hasn’t shown the same match-winning ability as someone like Kapil Dev once did.

“I have praised Jadeja a lot. Kapil Dev was a bowling all-rounder, and he won a lot of Tests for India in overseas. But Jadeja has done well in the supporting role away from home. He bowls his overs quickly and executes restrictive bowling, but he is unable to win Test matches, and it has been evident since the first Test,” Sidhu said in a video on his YouTube channel.

Jadeja’s Unbeaten Knock at Lord’s Not Enough

Sidhu also referred to Jadeja’s lone fight in the Lord’s Test, where India failed to chase down a modest target of 193 runs. Despite another collapse from the Indian batting unit, Jadeja remained unbeaten on 61, holding one end firm even as wickets fell around him. At one point, India were reduced to 112/8 after lethal spells from Ben Stokes and Jofra Archer.

Even though Jadeja’s efforts kept India’s hopes alive, the lack of support from the rest of the batting order led to another failed chase. Sidhu believes that while the innings was admirable, it wasn’t enough to change the outcome or rescue the match.

Still, Jadeja has been one of India’s best performers in the ongoing series, particularly with the bat. In eight innings, he has scored 454 runs at an average of 113.50, which includes four half-centuries and one century. With the ball, he has taken seven wickets in seven innings.
