India’s rising star Vaibhav Suryavanshi made headlines once again by smashing the fastest century in Men’s Youth ODIs, during the fourth Youth ODI between England and India at Worcester. With this feat, he broke the previous record held by Pakistan’s Kamran Ghulam, who had scored a hundred in 53 balls.
Suryavanshi reached his century in just 52 balls, hammering 10 fours and 7 sixes. He eventually fell to Ben Hayes after scoring a blistering 143 off 78 balls, which included a total of 13 fours and 7 sixes. Thanks to his knock, India posted 363/9 in the first innings.
The U-19 sensation has been in red-hot form throughout the series and has been turning heads since his Indian Premier League (IPL) debut for Rajasthan Royals, where he became the youngest player in IPL history to score a century—35-ball ton against Gujarat Titans at just 14 years of age.
This isn’t the first time Suryavanshi has flirted with record books. In the U-19 Men’s Youth Tests against Australia, he smashed the second-fastest youth Test century, scoring it in 56 balls, just behind England’s Moeen Ali, who achieved the feat off the same number of deliveries in 2005.
In the ongoing U-19 ODI series against England, Suryavanshi has shown remarkable consistency. In the first game, he scored 48 off 19 balls followed by 45 off 34 balls in the second game. In the third game, he smashed 86 off 31 balls – which also made him the second-fastest Indian to score a Youth ODI fifty (in 20 balls). India currently lead the series 2-1.
