In a high-scoring affair, England beat West Indies comprehensively by 37 runs in the third T20I played at the Rose Bowl, Southampton. Rovman Powell played a blinder, scoring an unbeaten 79 off 45 balls, but couldn’t take his team home.

Powell came to bat when the score was 70/4 in the eighth over. At the beginning, Powell took some balls to settle in, but his innings took off in the 10th over when he hit Adil Rashid for a six and two fours in three consecutive deliveries. The former West Indies skipper then unleashed himself again in the 16th over, bowled by Brydon Carse, hitting two fours and a massive six. In the final over, again bowled by Carse, Powell smashed one six and three fours, with the over yielding 23 runs for West Indies—but that was still far from the target.

In the meantime, Powell built three useful partnerships in the middle. The first was with Shai Hope, adding 49 runs off 28 balls. Then, with Jason Holder, he added 52 runs from 26 balls. Finally, with Akeal Hosein, he stitched a partnership of 37 runs off 16 balls.

Earlier, West Indies won the toss and put England in to bat. The English openers were on fire, putting together 120 runs for the first wicket. The rest of the batters chipped in well to take England to a formidable 248-3. In reply, apart from Powell, only Hope managed to cross the 30-run mark for the West Indies.
