India women’s cricket team have started their England tour on a high. They won the first two games of the five-match T20I series. In both matches, India claimed convincing victories, which surprised many fans.
India Women have never beaten England in a bilateral T20I series since 2006. Now, with three matches left, they are on the verge of creating history. The third match will take place at The Oval on Friday. A win will seal the series for the Women in Blue.
Before the series, England Women began a new chapter with Charlotte Edwards as head coach and Nat Sciver-Brunt as captain. They had crushed the West Indies in ODI and T20I formats, sweeping both series 3-0. That form, along with home advantage and their past T20I record vs India, made them favourites going into this series.
But India have stepped up in every key moment so far. The visitors were without regular captain Harmanpreet Kaur in the first T20I. Stand-in skipper Smriti Mandhana led from the front. She scored her maiden T20I century, becoming the first Indian woman to hit a hundred in all three formats. India won by 97 runs — England’s biggest loss to India in T20Is.
England fought back better in the second game, especially with the ball. Their pacers used short balls and hard lengths well, taking three quick wickets in the Powerplay. But India’s strategy to send Jemimah Rodrigues at No. 3 worked perfectly. She took her time and stitched a 93-run stand for the fourth wicket.
Amanjot Kaur was another standout performer. Despite being part of a young pace attack, she showed great all-round skills. With the ball, she picked up wickets. Then, with the bat, she scored an unbeaten 63 off 40 in a tricky situation.

India’s spin attack has also impressed. N Shree Charani, the young left-arm orthodox spinner, has been a major positive. Her ability to give flight and use variations has troubled England’s batters. Even with experienced names like Deepti Sharma, Radha Yadav and Sneh Rana in the squad, the youngster has stood out.
Every team is now looking ahead to the Women’s ODI World Cup, which will be hosted by India in a few months. So, the upcoming three-match ODI series against England will be key. It will help the team management assess who is ready for the World Cup challenge. Also, with the Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 set to be hosted in England, this tour becomes even more important.
In 2022, India lost the T20I series in England 2-1. Back then, Indian bowlers struggled, taking only 10 wickets across three games. The team had also failed to cross 150 runs in any match.
This time, things look different. India seem better prepared. In the first two T20Is, they scored 210/5 and 181/4, while taking 17 English wickets. Their pre-tour camp in Bengaluru and warm-up games in England have clearly helped.
Whether India can go on to win the series or England manage a comeback, only time will tell. But for now, this Indian team have made a strong statement. They’ve raised questions in the England camp and will look to trouble them further in the third T20I tomorrow.
