England’s white-ball cricket head coach, Matthew Mott, has revealed that the responsibility of discussing the potential reversal of Ben Stokes’ retirement from ODI cricket lies with limited-over captain Jos Buttler.
While Stokes’ intentions remain uncertain, Mott remains optimistic on the possibility of him reconsidering the decision.
Stokes announced his retirement from ODI cricket in July 2022, citing extensive workload and a preference for Test cricket.
“Jos (Buttler) will probably lead the way on that communication, but Ben’s pretty straight with all of us. We will see if he’s keen. There has not been a clear direction on what he’s going to do yet, but we are still hopeful. I’ve always said his bowling would be a bonus, but just look at what he brings with the bat, even in the field,” Mott told Mail Sport.
In a recent statement, Stokes reaffirmed his decision to retire from ODI cricket, thereby confirming his absence from the upcoming World Cup in India.
