England’s white-ball captain Harry Brook has given some suggestions for his fellow teammates, batter Zak Crawley and wicketkeeper batter Jordan Cox, asking them to remain consistent with their form and earn their spot in the ODI squad.
Both Crawley and Cox were left out from the team’s upcoming three-match ODIs and T20Is against South Africa scheduled to begin on Tuesday, September 2, despite the duo being among the top scorers in the recently concluded The Hundred Men’s tournament.
Cox was part of the winning team, the Oval Invincible, as the highest scorer with 367 runs. Crawley, on the other hand, played for Northern Superchargers and was the third-highest scorer for them with 280 runs.
Addressing the ODI squad, Brook said, “Everybody’s in the mix: whoever does well. [Crawley] obviously has the attributes that we’re talking about: putting pressure on the bowlers with their good and bad balls; he can manipulate the field really well; he’s good against fast bowling, and he’s good against spin. He’s got all the attributes to play white-ball [cricket] for England.”
Shifting his focus on Cox, Brook praised his overall skills as both a wicketkeeper and batter. “It’s the same with everybody. Everybody’s been talking about Jordan Cox: he’s obviously an unbelievable player,” he said.
Brook is, however, quite impressed to see the growing talents within the team and believes consistency is the key for every player.
