The upcoming 2023 edition of the Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL) will undergo a significant overhaul, introducing major changes to enhance the tournament. The Tamil Nadu-based T20 tournament is set to commence on June 12 in Coimbatore.

This year’s TNPL will introduce the concept of an impact player, similar to the IPL. Additionally, the Decision Review System (DRS) will be implemented, although it will not be utilized for wides and no-balls, unlike the IPL.

Another notable change for this season is the inclusion of a reserve day for the playoffs, ensuring flexibility in case of any unforeseen circumstances.

Dr. R. N. Baba, a TNCA official, confirmed during a press conference that the M.A. Chidambaram Stadium, also known as Chepauk, will not host TNPL matches due to ongoing floodlight renovations in preparation for the highly-anticipated ODI World Cup later this year.

“Chepauk will not host matches this year as the floodlights in the stadium will be undergoing renovations ahead of the highly-anticipated ODI World Cup later this year,” R.N. Baba told reporters.

The tournament will kick off on Monday, June 12, with defending joint champions Lyca Kovai Kings facing Idream Tiruppur Tamizhans in Coimbatore. Dindigul Dragons will commence their campaign against the new entrants, Ballsy Trichy, on June 14.

A total of 27 group-stage matches will be staged across four venues: Coimbatore, Dindigul, Salem, and Tirunelveli. The TNPL 2023 playoffs are scheduled for July 7, 8, and 10, with the final set to take place on July 12.
