Mohammedan SC secured their first victory of the 2024-25 Indian Super League (ISL) season by defeating Chennaiyin FC 1-0 at the Jawaharlal Nehru Indoor Stadium, with Lalremsanga Fanai scoring the only goal of the match.

Chennaiyin FC started strong, applying early pressure. In the fifth minute, Connor Shields sent in a corner that found Irfan Yadwad, whose header narrowly missed the target. Shields was involved again in the 13th minute, delivering a cross into the box. Goalkeeper Padam Chettri managed to get a hand on it, but Lalrinliana Hnamte’s shot was deflected for a corner.

Mohammedan SC’s first real opportunity came in the 33rd minute when a header from Laldinliana Renthlei fell to Alexis Gomez. The Argentine midfielder beat goalkeeper Samik Mitra but struck the post. Chennaiyin were punished six minutes later when a miscommunication between PC Laldinpuia and Mitra allowed Fanai to pounce on a loose ball and slot it home, giving Mohammedan the lead.

Chennaiyin pushed forward in the second half, but a series of missed opportunities and solid defending from Mohammedan kept them at bay. Chennaiyin’s best chance came in the 94th minute, but a crucial goal-line clearance from Gaurav Bora and Vanlalzuidika Chhakchhuak denied Lukas Brambilla’s effort.
