“For 2025 focus was on 3 tournaments – All England, World Championships and Super Series Finals at the End of the Year.” –  Tan Kim Her

We have heard tons on workload management in the last few weeks. And it yet again came back into our discussion last night when coach Tan Kim Her returned my call from Paris. “It is coach Tan”, he said as I was preparing to call it a night on Sunday. The coach was getting ready for the prize distribution in Paris and it was nice of him to return the request and do the interview. A special thanks also to Sumeeth Reddy for facilitating it and making it happen.

“There are 25 tournaments and it is impossible to play all with the same intensity. That’s why we had decided we will focus on three tournaments this year. The All England, World Championships and the Super Series Finals at the end of the year. Chirag got injured ahead of the All England, so we couldn’t do that. We have done well at the World Championships, though it could have been better and we will now look ahead to the Super Series finals. While other tournaments are also important and we want to do well, the focus will be on these three. I have spoken to the boys about it”, said coach Tan.

Yet again it is about workload management. It is about managing the bodies and understanding what is doable. To push and get injured makes little sense and that’s what coach Tan was speaking about. Satwik and Chirag have both had issues with injuries in the recent past and it is essential that both are careful with their bodies. They are the best we have and can easily pull through till LA28, a medal that is missing from their cabinet. As Chirag has repeatedly said to me, “We will not stop until we win an Olympic medal”. To do that, workload management will be the key and that’s what was one of the points highlighted by Coach Tan.

We spoke on a host of issues and the interview is already out on RevSportz. The full transcript will be published at 11am.
