The city of Bengaluru is buzzing with excitement as Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) prepare to play their first IPL final in nine years. Fans are hopeful that RCB will finally lift their maiden IPL trophy after 18 years of waiting, as they take on Punjab Kings (PBKS) this evening.

Such is the craze and passion in the city that several fans have written to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, requesting a state holiday if RCB become champions.

Supporters are doing everything they can to bring luck to their team. From performing special prayers at Hanuman and Ganesha temples to organising a ‘homa’ at the Chamundeshwari temple, fans are going all out to keep the hope alive.

Hundreds of RCB fans, led by Chamaraja MLA K Harish Gowda, gathered at the Amrutheshwara temple wearing red team shirts and waving posters of RCB players. A special homa was also performed to seek divine blessings for the team’s win.

The streets of Bengaluru are also showing their love for RCB. Car stickers can be seen everywhere, and one fan even wrapped his XUV500 with pictures of RCB players. Pubs and restaurants are packed ahead of tonight’s final. PVR and INOX are screening the match across 30 cities, with tickets selling out almost instantly.

Vinay Chandrashekar of Long Boat Brewing Co said, “On a regular Tuesday, we see about 300 guests, but tomorrow, we’re expecting more than 900. We’re not a dedicated sports bar, but the energy around this match is incredible.”

Biswa Bhusbad Linka from House of Commons added, “Each of our seven outlets seats 300 to 400 people, and we’re completely booked. All four of our associated brands are packed, too. People are calling us non-stop for reservations. The energy is absolutely electric.”

Deputy Chief Minister D. K. Shivakumar also expressed his support and said, “Bengaluru boys RCB will win in Ahmedabad. The govt and the people of Karnataka are eagerly waiting. Many fans are travelling to watch the match. Let us all hope and pray for a win.”
