Ruturaj Gaikwad, the India batter, shared his thoughts on how he paced his innings in the second ODI against South Africa. The experienced cricketer, who failed in the opening match, cracked a sublime hundred in Raipur.
During the innings break, in a conversation with the host broadcaster, Rituraj said, “Last game I was unfortunate to miss out on a knock and the conditions were perfect for me.
“Today was more suitable for me because I went out to bat in the 11th over. I told myself that I try to have an approach to bat till the 25th or 30th over. Until the 15th or 20th over, it was slightly two-paced and then it eased out,” he added.
He also noted that batting with a senior player like Virat Kohli helped him to build his innings. The duo added 195 runs for the second wicket.
“Obviously a dream to bat with him. Wonderful partnership and he helped me through the innings, telling me where I could find gaps, what lengths the bowlers could bowl, etc. We kept small-small targets, and once we felt really comfortable in the middle and there was a phase where the ball was coming on really nicely, I said, I’ll back myself.
“We were thinking of 350 at one stage and I’m glad we got there. There was a lot of dew yesterday, and hopefully today, it won’t be so much and chasing 350 should be tough.”
Along with Gaikwad, Kohli also smashed a century. Captain KL Rahul also composed a crucial 66 which helped India to set a massive target.
