On Saturday evening, the iconic Eden Gardens will witness the clash between the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) and the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). Morne Morkel, Lucknow’s bowling coach, once played for KKR, while Gautam Gambhir, the team mentor, led the Kolkata franchise to two titles in 2012 and 2014 during his seven-year stint there.
“Gambhir is always an advantage for us,” said Morkel. “He played for KKR, he knows Eden Gardens, and he was the two-time champion captain. So, I think it’s an advantage, and hopefully, we could make it.”

Victory over KKR will guarantee a play-off berth for a team playing only its second season, but Morkel said the team’s aims went beyond that. “What we need to do is to play and win,” said Morkel. “So, qualifying is one thing. But playing the final is the goal. Kolkata, Eden Gardens is always a high-scoring ground. This ground has a history. So hopefully, we can make it.”
