Former India skipper Sourav Ganguly has weighed in on the ‘no-handshake’ stance taken by the Indian team after their seven-wicket win against Pakistan in Dubai in the Asia Cup.

Following the game, Suryakumar Yadav and his players did not shake hands with the Pakistan cricketers, with the captain also dedicating the victory to the victims of the Pahalgam terror attack in April where 26 lives were lost.

Asked about the decision during an event on September 15, Ganguly distanced himself from the matter.

“You need to ask the captain what he did and why he did it. I am too far. I am launching my ethnic brand. I really don’t have an answer to that,” Ganguly said.

However, the former BCCI president did not hold back while sharing his assessment of the match. Ganguly insisted that the contest reflected the growing gulf in quality between the two sides. He even admitted that he lost interest after the early exchanges and switched to the ‘Manchester Derby’ instead.

“Pakistan is no match. I say that with respect, just because I see what the team is, it’s the lack of quality on the side. The Indian team played this game without Virat (Kohli) and Rohit (Sharma), who were stalwarts for such a long time,” he said.

He went further, adding that India are operating on another level compared to their arch-rivals.

“India are too far ahead in cricket. From Pakistan and any of these Asia Cup teams. There’ll be one or two days when they’ll get beaten, but the majority of the days, they’ll be the best team. And I was not surprised by what I saw. I actually stopped watching after the first 15 overs, and I was watching Manchester City play Manchester United last night. Because there is no competition any more in India vs Pakistan,” Ganguly added.
