Gujarat Titans and Lucknow Super Giants had different priorities when they locked horns in Ahmedabad. For GT, it was about finishing in the top two positions in the league table. Meanwhile, for LSG, it was about ending their disappointing campaign on a high. Eventually, it was LSG who emerged victorious. At RevSportz, we delve deeper to look at the five talking points from the game.

Rishabh Pant’s quick-fire cameo – Confidence booster

Before the game against GT, Pant had compiled a mere 135 runs and his strike rate was hovering around 100. Pant, the captain of LSG, needed a timely boost ahead of the England tour. His 16 off just six deliveries would help him in his cause. Yes, it wasn’t a score of substance, but finding the sweet spot of the bat a couple of times would have given him some belief. Even in that cameo, there was an audacious shot where without really looking at the ball, he smacked one over deep backward square leg.

The kind of applause that he was getting from the players in the dugout gave an indicator of what that breezy innings meant to the rest of the side.

Mitchell Marsh targeting downtown territories

Marsh clubbed 10 boundaries and eight sixes in total. In that, at least six of them were shots essayed down the ground. The 6’4″ veteran certainly put on an exhibition of straight hits, with the lofted drive off Prasidh Krishna turning out to be the highlight of the innings. In fact, it was a quintessential innings from Marsh as he brought out pulls and lofted drives. To make it even better for LSG, Nicholas Pooran, who had lost a bit of form during the second half of the tournament, found his touch with a 27-ball unbeaten 56.

Sai Sudharsan doesn’t notch up a big score

Prior to the LSG-GT game, the southpaw had only one single-digit score over his previous eight matches. Sudharsan didn’t get out for a single-digit score even against LSG, but considering his current form, an innings of 24 looks like a failure. Intriguingly, it turned out to be a rather soft dismissal with the left-hander tamely driving one to mid-off.

William O'Rourke vs GT, IPL 2025

Will O’Rourke makes an impression

There is no doubt about the New Zealand fast bowler’s immense potential. O’Rourke, who came in as a replacement for Mayank Yadav, extracts awkward bounce, alongside possessing the ability to summon quick spells. The 23-year-old gave a glimpse of his class and quality by taking three wickets for the cost of 27 runs. Although a couple of those wickets – Sherfane Rutherford and Sudharsan – didn’t necessarily come due to good deliveries. But that is the nature of T20 cricket with the batters taking more risks.

Prasidh goes wicketless, Shahrukh’s innings in vain

After 11 consecutive games, Prasidh Krishna went wicketless in the ongoing IPL. The last time it had happened was during GT’s first game of the 2025 IPL versus PBKS. The GT camp would trust one of the mainstays of the pace attack to return to form soon.

On the other hand, Shahrukh Khan, his GT teammate, crunched a resolute 29-ball 57. After considerable hype about his hitting prowess at the start of his career, question marks were raised against Shahrukh’s ability to replicate his success in the higher echelons of cricket. However, during this season, the middle-order bat has been in fine form, evidenced by his strike rate of 188.46. Hopefully, it would turn out to be a watershed moment in his career.
