Winning the toss, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) chose to bat and posted a huge score of 230 for the loss of five wickets in their 20 overs. Their hero with the bat was Dewald Brevis against the Gujarat Titans (GT). Brevis put on a 74-run partnership off 39 balls with Ravindra Jadeja, which was instrumental in CSK reaching the mammoth total. Brevis scored 57 runs off just 23 balls at a strike rate of 247.83. His innings included four fours and five sixes.
Brevis is showing great form this season, although he was overlooked in terms of selection at the beginning of the campaign. And though CSK are out of the playoff race this year, he could be a valuable foreign player for them next season. After today’s knock, Brevis has scored 225 runs in six innings, at an average of 37.50 and a strike rate of 180.00.
“There’s a bit of turn if you bowl it in the wicket.” – Dewald Brevis
CSK openers gave them a great start, with Ayush Mhatre and Devon Conway putting on 44 runs for the opening partnership. Urvil Patel and Conway also contributed with a solid 63-run stand, adding stability to the innings. Urvil Patel was fantastic with his shots all around the ground, smashing 37 off 19 at a strike rate of 194.73. Including today, in three matches, he has batted at a strike rate of 212.50.
After the completion of the innings, Dewald Brevis spoke about the pitch, saying: “If you hit the deck, there’s something in it. There’s a bit of turn if you bowl it in the wicket. It’s a beautiful place to bat. It’s a great score. We just need to stick to our basics: take it ball by ball, and over by over.”
