Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) defeated Gujarat Titans (GT) by 33 runs in a high-scoring contest at GT’s home ground, the Narendra Modi Stadium. This was LSG’s second win over GT in the league stage this season.
Batting first, LSG posted a massive total of 235/2. Mitchell Marsh led the charge with a stunning knock of 117 off 64 balls, while Nicholas Pooran provided the finishing touches with an explosive 56 off just 27 deliveries. Their powerful partnership helped LSG put up an intimidating total on the board.
In response, GT — the current table-toppers — made a strong attempt to chase the target but fell short, finishing at 202/9 in their 20 overs. One of the key reasons for GT’s failure to chase the total was the brilliant spell from LSG’s young fast bowler William O’Rourke.
LSG brought William O’Rourke as a temporary replacement for injured Mayank Yadav
O’Rourke delivered an outstanding performance, picking up three crucial wickets while conceding only 27 runs in his four overs. His economy rate of 6.75 stood out in a match where most bowlers struggled to contain runs.
He struck early by dismissing Sai Sudharsan with a clever change of pace. He followed it up by removing SherfaneRutherford with his very first ball — Rutherford mistimed a shot and was caught at deep midwicket. Later in the same over, O’Rourke got rid of Rahul Tewatia, who tried to go big over long-on but found the fielder. That over turned the game in LSG’s favour just as GT was starting to build momentum in their chase.
After the match, O’Rourke said: “Lot of fun out there, T20 is fickle. But when you got 240, it’s tough to chase down. GT bowled hard lengths and it was up and down, my gameplan was the same. You always have to mix things up in T20s, I’m still working on my game. I’m drenched in sweat, getting used to conditions was key. And also just taking confidence and knowing all things are possible. We have a great crew of Indian and overseas boys who have welcomed me with open arms.”
