
Mumbai Indians (MI) posted a massive total of 228/5 in 20 overs in the Eliminator of IPL 2025 in Mullanpur against Gujarat Titans (GT). Rohit Sharma was instrumental, smashing 81 off 50 balls at a strike rate of 162.00.
MI skipper Hardik Pandya won the toss and opted to bat first. Jonny Bairstow, making his debut for MI, opened the innings alongside Rohit Sharma. Rohit’s innings picked up pace in the third over when he hit two back-to-back boundaries off Mohammed Siraj.
While it was Bairstow’s onslaught at one end, Rohit provided solid support from the other, ensuring the run rate stayed high. Together, they added 79 runs in the powerplay — MI’s highest powerplay score this season. Their opening stand of 84 runs laid a strong foundation for the big total that followed.

After Bairstow’s dismissal, Rohit continued to anchor the innings in his trademark style. Alongside Suryakumar Yadav, he kept the momentum going with a 59-run partnership in the middle overs. Following Surya’s departure, Tilak Varma joined Rohit, and the pair added another 43 runs to the total.
Rohit’s innings brought much-needed stability to MI’s batting effort. He reached his half-century in just 28 balls. After this knock, Rohit now has 410 runs in 14 innings this season, with a strike rate of 150.18. Apart from him, Bairstow’s 47 runs, Suryakumar Yadav’s 33 off 22, Tilak Varma’s 25 off 11 and Pandya’s unbeaten 22 off nine balls were the significant contributions.
