Gurgaon Sapphires achieved a historic feat in the Harven Pro Tennis League (PTL) by securing back-to-back titles, emerging victorious against Ichiban Samurai in the final held at the DLTA Complex in New Delhi. The final, conducted at the RK Khanna Stadium under the lights, ended with a score of 81-56 in favor of Gurgaon Sapphires. This triumph marked Ichiban Samurai’s first defeat of the season, and unfortunately for them, it occurred in the title clash.
In the journey to the final, Gurgaon Sapphires displayed dominance with an 81-64 win over Sankara Stag Babolat Yoddhas, while Ichiban Samurai narrowly advanced by defeating Paramount Proec Tigers with a score of 81-75.
Despite losing the first match of the final tie, Gurgaon Sapphires turned the tide in their favor. Notably, Sahaja Yamalapalli secured an initial win for Ichiban Samurai, but Gurgaon Sapphires bounced back with victories from players like Rushil Khosla, Ruma Gaikaiwari, and Rithvik Choudhary. The team’s commanding performance led to a significant 20-point lead.
The season also saw individual accolades, with players such as Ruma Gaikaiwari, Rushil Khosla, Sahaja Yamalapalli, and Rithvik Choudhary receiving “Player of the Tournament” awards in various categories.
League co-owner Aditya Khanna expressed satisfaction with the success of the fifth season of the Pro Tennis League, emphasizing the growth and positive impact of the event. Additionally, he highlighted the presence of families enjoying the sport and the festive atmosphere.
The league’s partnership with Harven Realtors LLC, a first-time collaborator, was characterized by enthusiasm for the sport and plans to make the league a global phenomenon. Harven’s Vice President Rahul Sharma expressed the desire to expand the PTL to different countries, envisioning it as a niche product on an international platform.
