England’s rising star Harry Brook has taken the top spot in the ICC Men’s Test Player Rankings, overtaking teammate Joe Root to become the new world No. 1 Test batter. Brook’s exceptional 158-run knock in the first innings of the second Test against India at Edgbaston played a crucial role in the change, pushing Root down to second. Brook now leads the chart with an 18-point advantage over Root.

India’s Test captain Shubman Gill has also made a significant leap in the rankings. After his record-breaking knocks of 269 and 161 in the same match, Gill has climbed 15 places to reach a career-best 6th position. The Edgbaston Test also marked his first win as India’s Test captain. Only Harry Brook, Joe Root, Kane Williamson (3rd), Yashasvi Jaiswal (4th), and Steve Smith (5th) are ranked above him now.

England’s Jamie Smith has also surged in the rankings after his stunning performances. With scores of 184* and 88 in the second Test, Smith jumped 16 places to break into the top 10, now sitting at No. 10.

Meanwhile, South Africa’s Wiaan Mulder has made massive strides after scoring an unbeaten 367 against Zimbabwe. He has jumped 34 places to reach 22nd in the batting rankings and has also climbed to 3rd in the Test all-rounder rankings.

In the bowling department, India’s Jasprit Bumrah remains the No. 1 Test bowler despite missing the Edgbaston Test. Mohammed Siraj’s strong performance has helped him rise six spots to 22nd. West Indies pacers Shamar Joseph and Alzarri Joseph have also made progress in the latest update.
