England captain Nat Sciver-Brunt is preparing to take on a bigger role with the ball at the upcoming ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025. The all-rounder, who missed her bowling duties during the summer due to an Achilles issue, revealed that she has resumed bowling in practice and is eager to contribute across departments.
“I’ve been bowling in practice and the body is feeling really good. That is the plan, to bowl a few overs out there,” Sciver-Brunt said at the launch of the Sage Small Business XI competition.
She stressed that playing multiple roles for the team is something that excites her. “Contributing in every facet is something I love to do and I’ll be really happy to contribute with the ball again,” she added.
Sciver-Brunt took over as captain in March after Heather Knight stepped down and will now lead England’s push for a fifth World Cup title. Her return to bowling will be a major boost as the team prepares for their opening match against South Africa on October 3 in Guwahati.
While focusing on regaining her full bowling rhythm, the skipper also addressed the tough call that saw pacer Kate Cross omitted from the squad. “Being left out is never nice and for someone who has been a mainstay of our side for a really long time it probably has another level to it,” she admitted.
However, Sciver-Brunt pointed out that such decisions reflect the depth and strength of the current England side. “I think in a roundabout way it’s a positive for where we are as a group and a squad,” she concluded.
