Former India T20I captain Rohit Sharma admitted he was panicking after India lost three early wickets in the T20 World Cup final against South Africa, adding that nervousness had gripped the entire dressing room.
India were rocked early, losing three wickets for just 24 runs, and Rohit acknowledged that while there was a bit of panic, he maintained belief in the lower middle order.
“I was panicking. I wasn’t comfortable,” Rohit told JioCinema. “I thought we’d let them into the game. Of course, at the back of my mind, I always believed in our lower middle order—although they hadn’t batted much during the tournament, they had made an impact whenever given the opportunity.”
Rohit lauded Virat Kohli’s innings, saying it was crucial to have one batter stay at the crease throughout the innings, and Kohli executed that role perfectly.

“We needed one player to bat through the innings—Virat did that brilliantly,” Rohit on Kohli’s fifty.
The current ODI captain also highlighted Axar Patel’s contribution as a turning point in the match.
“Not many people are talking about Axar’s knock, but it was the game-changer. Scoring 47 off 31 at that stage was vital,” underlined Rohit.
Rohit described last year’s World Cup win as the best moment of his cricketing career.
“It was by far the best moment of my life, of my cricketing career—to lift the trophy,” admitted Rohit.
