Ravi Shastri, former India all-rounder, has lavished praise on the dashing opener Abhishek Sharma. Terming the young batter a ‘gun T20 player’. Shastri told Fox Cricket that if the left-hander is on song, he can be the real game changer for India in the T20I series against Australia.
“He’s a gun T20 player. If he’s in for a while, there’s guaranteed entertainment. Irrespective of whether you’re Australian or Indian, you’ll enjoy it. He has the ability to take the game away from you. You don’t want him out there too long because he can create chaos.”
The 25-year-old recently had a fantastic Asia Cup 2025, where he was the highest run-score, scoring 314 runs in seven matches at an average of 44.85, including three fifties. The opener batted with a strike rate of 200 in the tournament.
One of Abhishek’s biggest strengths is his ability to bat aggressively. His fearless approach often dismantles opposition’s plans.
Shastri also praised Abhishek’s confidence and self-belief,
“His preparation, his belief in his own ability, the range of shots that he has, and then the mindset to go out there and back himself from ball one.” he said. “From the get-go, he’ll go after the bowling. That’s where he can be extremely dangerous, very explosive, and quietly confident about his own ability.”
The opening T20I of the five-match series will be played in Canberra on Wednesday, October 29.
