Former Australian pacer Jason Gillespie has called young Indian batter Abhishek Sharma an “excitement machine,” praising him for his fearless approach. Speaking on the Fast Bowling Cartel YouTube channel, Gillespie lauded Abhishek’s attacking mindset from the very first ball, which puts the opposition under pressure.

“He (Abhishek Sharma) just goes out there and is aggressive. He runs at the first ball and just looks to put pressure on the opposition. He’s an excitement machine and the anticipation of him walking out can be seen in the last couple of games.”

Abhishek is one of the most talked-about cricketers in recent times and currently holds the No. 1 spot in the ICC T20I batters’ rankings. In the second T20I of the ongoing five-match series against Australia at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG), the 25-year-old stood tall when others struggled, taking India to a respectable score with his 68 off 37 balls.

The left-hander was instrumental in India’s victory at the recently concluded Asia Cup 2025, finishing as the tournament’s highest run-getter with 314 runs in seven matches at an average of 44.85, striking at 200 including three fifties.

However, in the ongoing series, in three matches so far, Abhishek has scored 112 runs. He is the leading run-scorer as of now, averaging 37.33 and an impressive strike rate of 167.16. With a win for India in the third match, the series is tied at 1-1 as the fourth match is scheduled tomorrow (November 6) at Carrara.
