Hyderabad Host Mumbai in Clash of Resurgent Sides

Overview

The current IPL 2023 points table shows Sunrisers Hyderabad and Mumbai Indians near the bottom, with only Delhi Capitals below them. However, both sides go into their game at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad on the back of two consecutive wins, knowing that a third straight success will lift them into the group jostling for playoff positions.

Sunrisers Hyderabad have rebounded well from losses in their first two matches, with Harry Brook impressing wth a century in their previous game. Brook’s high strike-rate made up for his tentativeness against spin.

Mayank Markande has also been a key player for Sunrisers, taking six wickets in two matches. He will be keen to continue his good form against Mumbai, his former team. Marco Jansen, another who once wore the Mumbai shirt, has also been performing well with the ball for Hyderabad.

Mumbai will rely on their powerplay performance, having scored 72-1 in their previous game, the fifth-highest in the history of the competition. Rohit Sharma has been consistent, but not up to his usual standards. Mumbai are boosted by the improved form of Piyush Chawla, who has taken five wickets at an economy rate of 6.25. The match could also see a face-off between the Jansen twins, with Duan now playing for Mumbai.

Expected conditions and toss

The temperature in Hyderabad is expected to hover around 36 degrees, with spinners set to play an important role in the encounter. The team that wins the toss is likely to prefer to chase down a total, as has been the case with most of the matches in IPL 2023.

Head-to-Head

Mumbai and Hyderabad have faced each other 18 times, with both teams winning on nine occasions.

Possible XIs and Impact Player Watch

Abhishek Tripathi remains a strong Impact Player contender for Hyderabad following his display with the bat in their previous match against Kolkata Knight Riders, where he scored 32 off 17 balls. For Mumbai Indians, who would welcome back Jofra Archer, Ramandeep Singh, the hard-hitting all-rounder, or Sandeep Warrier, the veteran pacer, could be Impact-Player options.
