Hyderabad or Thiruvananthapuram are likely to replace Bengaluru as a venue for the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025, which will be hosted in India after a decade. While nothing has been officially confirmed, one of these two cities is likely to be chosen.

The change comes after Bengaluru was declared “unsafe” as a host city following the stampede duringthe Royal Challenges Bengaluru victory paradefollowing their triumph in IPL 2025. The incident claimed 11 lives. This raised serious concerns about crowd management and public safety.

The tournament will be held from September 30 to November 2. India will play against Sri Lanka in the opening match. If the venue change goes ahead, there’s a high chance that Hyderabad or Thiruvananthapuram will host the inaugural match.

The Indian women’s team is heading into the tournament in strong form. They recently defeated England 2-1 in an ODI series and 3-2 in a T20I series in England. Before the World Cup, India will play againstAustralia in a three-match ODI series at home in September.

Yesterday, BCCI hosted a “50 Days to Go” event in Mumbai. India captain Harmanpreet Kaur, vice-captain Smriti Mandhana, and batter Jemimah Rodrigues along with former India stars Mithali Raj with Yuvraj Singh and ICC chief Jay Shah attended the programme.

Speaking at the event, Shah said, “The return of the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup to India comes at a defining moment for the women’s game, setting the stage for a truly world-class tournament that will further elevate the sport’s global stature.”
