Cameron Green, the Australian all-rounder, was certain that he took a clean catch to dismiss Shubman Gill on Day 4 of the World Test Championship (WTC) final against India.
India had a positive start in their pursuit of 444, with Gill and Rohit Sharma putting pressure on the Australian bowlers at The Oval. However, Scott Boland managed to take the edge of Gill’s bat, causing the ball to travel to the slip cordon after hitting the shoulder of the bat.
Green, positioned in the gully region, dived to his left and extended his left arm to successfully complete the catch. While Green celebrated, Gill showed doubt and remained at the crease. The third umpire, Richard Kettleborough, ruled it out, leading to Gill’s dismissal for 18. The decision sparked frustration among Indian fans, who disagreed with the ruling.
“At the time, I definitely thought I caught it,” said Green at the press conference after play. “I think in the heat of the moment, I thought it was clean and threw it up and obviously showed no sign of any doubt. And then it’s left up to the third umpire (Richard Kettleborough), and he agreed.”
