Former India wicketkeeper-batter Parthiv Patel believes that India’s T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav should be back in runs for the betterment of the team. Parthiv told IANS during a virtual media day before the T20I series opener, that if Surya finds his form, then the Mumbai batter has the ability to take away any match from the opposition.
“More than the personal thing, I feel it’s important that Surya finds form for the team. Basically, we know what he can do as a batter. If he gets runs, he can completely destroy the opposition. So from that point of view, I feel that if Surya gets some runs, it will be very helpful for the team.”
Surya is going through a rough patch as he could only score 72 runs from seven matches at an average of 18.00 in the recently finished Asia Cup 2025.
The 35-year-old batter got his last fifty in a T20I match on 12th October, 2024 against Bangladesh. And that is his only half-century in the last 15 internationals.
About what should be India’s approach in the upcoming series, Parthiv said that ‘men in blue’ have to adapt to the Australian conditions.
“I don’t think India needs to change their approach at all. You change your approach or try to rectify something if it has gone wrong. I think India has been playing fantastic cricket in the last few years, especially in this format. So, I don’t see India needs to change anything. I know the conditions are different. You just have to get used to the conditions and keep backing yourself.” he said.
