England Women batter Lauren Winfield-Hill has opened up about the demanding nature of this season’s revamped Women’s T20 Blast schedule. In a video shared by Wisden Cricket, the wicketkeeper-batter spoke candidly about the toll of travel and non-stop cricket on her body and mind.

“I sort of feel like I’m tired and fatigued. It’s like, yeah, it’s sort of there. There’s this white circular thing coming down at me. I always say, like, I’m conditioned to play cricket. I’m not conditioned to sit in a car or on a coach. Like, honestly, on your body, that is way harder than a game of cricket,” she said.

Winfield-Hill further described the difference in her focus and visual clarity when she is fatigued versus when she is feeling fit and dialled in.

“Like, I always think when I’m fatigued, I feel like I’m watching, like, an area of the ball. I can see the ball for sure, but I’m watching, like, a space around the ball. When I’m not fatigued, I can see the seam. That’s probably the best way to describe it. It’s like, things are just sharper and in colour. I’m properly dialled in. And when I sort of feel like I’m tired and fatigued, it’s like, yeah, it’s sort of there. There’s this white circular thing coming down at me, but it’s just not razor sharp,” she added.

245 Runs in Eight Innings for Essex so far for Lauren Winfield-Hill

Winfield-Hill is currently representing Essex Women in the ongoing 2025 Vitality Women’s T20 Blast. So far, she has scored 245 runs across eight innings—an impressive contribution amidst a packed schedule.

In the same video, she also reflected on the progress of some domestic teams and the disparities in structure and resources among others.

“I think the Midlands team generally come out of this a lot better than a lot of the other teams. But you look at, like, a Durham and a Hampshire or Somerset, you know, that is a lot of mileage. Yeah, it’s your job and you’re professional cricketers and you get paid to play cricket and all the rest of it,” she said.
