Despite her actions causing a controversy during the third ODI against Bangladesh in Dhaka last month, Indian women’s cricket team captain Harmanpreet Kaur holds no feelings of remorse.
During that match, Harmanpreet’s frustration grew due to certain umpiring decisions. Her emotions escalated to the point where, upon her dismissal, she vented her anger by striking the stumps. This frustration extended beyond the game, spilling into the post-match presentation.
Additionally, she had made a comment aimed at the Bangladesh captain, reportedly asking her to include the umpires in the trophy presentation ceremony. This remark garnered considerable criticism. Subsequently, Harmanpreet faced a two-match suspension and accrued three demerit points for displaying disagreement with an umpire’s call and an additional point for publicly censuring the officials.
As a result of the ban, the Indian captain will be absent for the first two matches of the Asian Games campaign for the side.
“I will not say that I regret anything because at the end of the day as a player you want to see that fair things are happening. As a player, you always have the right to express yourself and what you’re feeling. I don’t think I said anything wrong to any player or any person. I just said what happened on the field. I don’t regret anything,” Harmanpreet was quoted as saying by The Cricket Paper during the ongoing Women’s Hundred.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) initially designated Harmanpreet to captain the team for the Asian Games, with Smriti Mandhana as her deputy. However, due to the two-match suspension, Mandhana will now take charge of the team during Harmanpreet’s absence.
