The International Cricket Council (ICC) is set to officially announce the Men’s ODI World Cup 2023 on June 27 at a special event to be hosted in Mumbai. June 27 marks 100 days before the showpiece tournament’s scheduled commencement on October 5 in India, and a couple of key announcements are expected on the day. Will the schedule for the ODI World Cup also be announced? That remains to be seen.
Fans have been eagerly waiting for the ICC to officially reveal the fixture list for the 2023 ODI World Cup. While the schedule was expected to come out by now, the deadlock between the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) regarding the venues for the Pakistan cricket team resulted in an unprecedented delay.
The PCB had requested the ICC and the BCCI to swap a couple of venues, specifically for the matches against Afghanistan and Australia in Chennai and Bengaluru respectively. Also, the PCB had raised their apprehensions relating to their clash against India, to be played at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. However, the ICC and BCCI have dismissed PCB’s request on venue swap. Notably, venue changes can happen only on the ground of security concerns.
